November 14-20th is Global Entrepreneurship Week and is being celebrated by people both nationally and globally. GEW is powered by the Kauffman Foundation and is accepted and supported by leaders from all over the world, as well as over 15,000 organizations. GEW is designed to acknowledge entrepreneurs for their successes and triumphs and also recognize them for their direct influence on providing products and services to consumers and businesses.
The Canadian host of Global Entrepreneurship Week for the eighth year is Futurpreneur Canada. For Futurpreneur, #GEW2016 is designed to celebrate “the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, also declared his support for entrepreneurs on November 14th to mark the beginning of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
“Canadian entrepreneurs work hard every day to transform new ideas into market-ready products and services that they export to the world, while creating job opportunities here at home that grow our middle class, strengthen our communities, and shape the course of our country’s future.
Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrates their ingenuity, hard work, and enormous contributions to our nation’s prosperity and economic security. This week is also an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to connect with collaborators, mentors, and investors, and explore ways to turn their dreams into reality.”

Darrell Keezer, CEO and founder of Candybox, started his entrepreneurial journey in 2008 after being laid off as an IT manager. Darrell identified that business owners were not attracting qualified leads, so he chose to start a company that would enable companies to succeed online! Entrepreneurs take risks daily in order to achieve success. Entrepreneurship can be hard and messy, but the reward can be great! Because people have chosen to start their own business, they have also influenced others to embark on their own entrepreneurial journeys and follow their passions.The Centre for Innovation Studies in Calgary has found that about 13% of Canadians are entrepreneurs, ranking Canada as second in the world for entrepreneurship!
