Google's Picasa app. gaining popularity; and your information
Google just recently introduced Google’s Photo Application (and video, slideshow, organization, editing etc etc) for Macintosh users. You may be asking yourself, why is Google investing in building Free software for organizing my photos? Good question.
Picasa’s ease of use comes with helpful tools to organize and document (Tag) your photos and movies. By letting you quickly enter information onto these pictures gives Google the opportunity to use this later on. Being integrated with their Web Albums feature this is leaving the door open for Picasa to being the next Facebook. Collecting information about your travels, habits, demographics and lifestyles, this will lend itself to social-graphic profiling down the road.
Google is quite aware that Adwords has limitations when it comes to searches, sometimes only knowing the local area of the searcher and their keywords, which is why Facebook Ads has been gaining popularity over the past year. Facebook knows the precise demographics and behavior of it’s viewers which Marketers can use to perform better targeting.
Imagine a vacation rentals company being able to target web-users who have had four picture albums with the words ‘Florida Vacation’ in it for the past four years. Let’s see what Google does…
