Is your site Blog-Worthy?

27 05 2010

No, we aren't trying to just tell you why you should have a blog, although you should, but are people blogging about you?

While some companies are desperately trying to make link backs to their website to improve their overall PageRank with Google, we love stories like these where our clients are praised by a real client – with a reputation. What made this customer feel that they needed to blog about their experience? Here is a list of items, just to name a few:

  • Credibility: Finding the same company on the top of Google Search no matter how many variations of they searched.
  • Simplicity: Navigating through a site where the user is valued as top priority, and helping them find what they want.
  • Offering: Being able to find what they are looking for quickly, and being enticed to submit their information for it. (If you are looking for teleconferencing, you don't want to read through pages about video-conferencing)
  • No Flash: Strangely enough, this particular customer loved the fact that the page didn't have to load some type graphic to tell them what they need.
  • Automated Email Follow-up: The fact that a personalized message sent back immediately from a real person's email account (even thought it was automated) was a warm touch after they submitted their information.

Thanks to Gyft.to for such a great review of one of our favorite customers, Vesta Networks.

Google Analytics Upgrade – Track more Goals!

20 10 2009

Google Analytics has always had a very handy tool of tracking Event Based goals.

This would allow users to customize Google Analytics to track whenever a certain page is reached on a site that equals a certain value, for example, a /thankyou.html page if someone submits an order. This can be used to measure Campaign effectiveness by tracing all Goals back to their original source (Adwords, Affiliate or alike).

Before now, Google only allowed users to track 4 Goals under a single profile. This made it difficult for advertisers to track multiple lead channels that usually exceed 4 paths and would warrent a new profile.

Today Google announced that all Google Analytics accounts can now track up to 20 goals per profile! This will allow less profiles to be made & easier tracking all in one place. They have also added the ability to measure goals by Time on Site, or even # of pages visited.

Local Searches on Google

21 09 2009

Over the past year Google has been displaying their local Google Maps results in the search results. This tactic has brought more relevancy to the searcher trying to find a local pizza store, and even more opportunities to advertisers.

A typical Yellow Pages full page ad will cost upwards of $40,000 / year +, given the industry and competition. But who uses that 2.5 lb outdated book anymore?! Recycling plants are having a huge influx of new Yellow Pages / Canpages books whenever there is a new book delivery for one simple reason, it's not being used.  Why find the book in the front hall closet, when in you can search Google in seconds, or even use the Local Business search on your iPhone using the GPS locator?

Gone are the days where naming your company AAA Auto Dealers was a competitive advantage, because no one is looking in the alphabetical yellow book anymore. Being at the top of Google for local searches (eg / auto dealers in Tornoto)is the new AAA marketing tactic that only a few companies are noticing.

Our company has quickly moved small companies / SMB to the top of Google Local map results within weeks, resulting in an overwhelming increase of website traffic and lead generation.

Are you at the top yet? Give us a shout, we'll pull you up!

Top 5 Reasons to Outsource your Website Development

14 08 2009

Over the past month, we at Candybox marketing have been redeveloping our corporate website (that will be launched in the next two weeks). It has given us tremendous insight into why companies outsource this type of job to external agencies, even if they have the resources to complete it. During this process, we have come up with the Top 5 reasons why companies should outsource their website development.

1. Your priority as a company

A company’s website is reasonably argued to be the most important marketing / communications tool that is seen every day. Although it should be your top priority, the task quickly falls to the bottom of the projects list because of the demands of your business, paying customers, and daily management of your operations. Once you hire an external company, you can be assured that it will remain their top priority until the task is completed.

2. Specialized Resources

To have a successful website, we believe it takes four key resources to make it a successful project that you company probably doesn’t have. Here’s a quick list of staff you will need:

  • Project / Strategic Management – Without proper management and goal setting, your website may not end up doing what you had originally planned to achieve. Project Managers can help connect the dots from concept to launch.
  • Design – Your web developer has design programs, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he is a designer. In most cases, designers & web developers have completely different skill sets and are constantly fighting the left vs. right brain battle.
  • Web Development – Don’t allow your designer to simply ‘convert’ their pictures using a program like Dreamweaver. These programs adds a tremendous amount of junk code are terrible for search engine Optimization. You need a good developer.
  • SEO Development – Your web-developer will make it work, but an SEO developer makes sure that your keywords are carried through from the image naming convention to your sitemap. Without this phase, your pretty little sight may not see the light of day if it doesn’t generate natural organic traffic.

3. Simplicity of your Message
Most business owners / marketers are supposed to be the website director, but can’t see the forrest for the trees. Having someone involved in your website, who is not part of your business, will help you clarify what your main messaging is.
4. User perspective
Outsourced companies can help you think about the end user. Every good website is built from the end goal backwards. For example, if you want to generate a Real Estate website to generate leads, you need to find out what will make website visitors provide their information. Everything else on the site should be focused on this one objective.

5. Cost of Building

The time associated to generating the website flow, design, development and having a company optimize it for search engines is usually more than you think. For a simple 10-paged website, you may spend over 200 labor hours and 3 months of planning. We typically turn around websites in 2-3 weeks because that is all we do.
So take it easy on yourself, and give us a call.

Traffic Jam Vs. Goal Freeway

14 03 2009

Don't be fooled by companies that can increase traffic to your site. At the end of the day, you may be faced with a 100%+ increase of traffic and nothing to show for it. If you make money from increasing simple page hits thats great, but to everyone else, this traffic will be unprofitable noise.

At Candybox Marketing, we focus on creating a Goal Freeway for companies wishing to convert meaningful traffic into hard dollars. A Goal is a set of actions that equates to value for your company in some form. This could be completing an online order, filling out a form to be contacted, or signing up for your monthly service.

Our Goal Analysis is completed by taking a 'Soup-to-Nuts' approach to every project, starting from the business objective ("We want to sell Magazines to Wineries"), through the website development process and finishing off with targeted online advertising.

We believe that where you are bringing your traffic is more important than how they got there. This means we don't care about volumes, unless the volumes are met by a compelling offering, great user experience and most importantly, an easy way to respond.

Let us help you build your own Goal Freeway.
